“Only God creates” – Michelangelo

It is the last day of 2019.

Time to take some time and reflect.

So much of what I am learning on this art journey is what and how to see.

To not paint what I think I see, but to look for the truth, for what is real.

I can also apply that to my life.

To constantly renew my mind.  To always look for God’s Truth.

In the middle of struggles, discouragement, uncertainty, dry seasons.

To really become quiet and ask for what is True.  And then focus my mind on that.

We live in a time with so many distractions.

Endless possibilities, but also endless uncertainties.

I find it hard to keep my focus sometimes.

I need constant and daily doses of solitude to tune in, to listen and hear.

To get grounded in who God made me to be.

To be at peace.

I am still figuring out what exactly my path must be.

Why I feel the urge to express what I see.

But I am figuring it out while walking…

I want to confess something.

I am not original.  At all.

I can only copy.

But I copy from the Master Artist, so I don’t mind…

I learn every day.

I stand in awe all the time.

I am reading a book about Michelangelo’s life at the moment.  I love this quote from him:

The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.

Only God creates.

The rest of us just copy.

This takes the pressure off.

I can only respond.  But I can do something else:

focus my mind on Truth and Beauty.

May you find Rest in this new year.

Shalom.
